China Stakeholder Initiative is a multi-company initiative specifically designed
to enable positive, productive, and mutually beneficial relationships between
global companies and their full range of issues-based stakeholders – beginning
between now and the 2008 Olympics.
The
Initiative began on
The
OBJECTIVE of the initiative is to
enable companies and their suppliers to achieve excellence at each level of the
corporate citizenship pyramid – performance, trust, and
leadership:
1.
PERFORMANCE
across the “triple bottom line” – awareness and avoiding of controversies over
labor and pollution, and generating social, environmental and economic benefits
for its shareholders and stakeholders inside and outside
China.
2.
TRUST
by influential stakeholders – from human rights to environmental justice
advocates – who can attest to the company’s high standards of
performance
3.
LEADERSHIP
– identify or explore at least one cause that extends beyond the company, to
benefit
The Most Influential Stakeholders
Future 500 staff in
Our first priority will be to
engage with leaders of the Top 20 NGOs that are active on CSR issues. These leaders help define and shape the
issues that will impact corporations and their brands.
We will also engage with the most
influential leaders of public and private agencies, especially Chinese
governmental agencies.
Finally, we will engage with
executives from among 40 leaders companies whose futures are most intertwined
with
We will seek to consult, align,
and assist all these stakeholders to discover and advance their mutual
interests. The most influential
stakeholders will evolve with the program.
The issue
sets on which we will focus are based on the priorities
set by corporate participants and
stakeholders at the October conference:

Protecting
the Climate and Energy Security, such as by
improving energy efficiency, reducing carbon footprint, and using clean
technologies

Protecting Water
Security,
for people and business, such as by improving water efficiency, and avoiding
·
Protecting
People,
such as by avoiding exploitive labor practices, reducing toxic chemicals and
food and factories, and supporting the rights of powerless citizens to redress
when their rights are violated
