Friends of Future 500,
Please join eminent climate leaders, environmentalists, and SRIs by signing on NOW to support a price on carbon!
Don't be discouraged by Congress's failure last week to act on a broad energy and climate bill. Behind the scenes, the coalition for a price on carbon is broader and deeper than ever - left to right, environmental groups to industry, "green tea partiers" to social justice advocates.
This may surprise you: even top corporate, GOP, and swing Democratic leaders tell us privately they support a price on carbon. They are willing to do so publicly in 2011 - but they need our help, to withstand the condemnations they expect from angry pressure groups that want the US to remain dependent on dirty fuels.
To seize this opportunity, Future 500 in partnership with US Climate Task Force have brought together NGOs and investors, who have shaped two simple principles for a price on carbon. The principles reflect the opportunity now at hand to craft a specific policy to put a price on carbon that can secure 60 votes in the Senate.
-A DIRECT PRICE ON CARBON
-A DIVIDEND OR
TAX REDUCTION TO CONSUMERS
