Fossil fuels are the most highly subsidized resources we use. But subsidies aren’t free. And the bills for fossil fuel dependence are coming due.

Despite this, innovation is driving down the cost of renewable forms of energy.

For example, electricity from the wind has dropped from 40-cents per kilowatt-hour to less than five-cents and, in some locales, three-cents today. It is expected to drop by half again in the next few years. (Rifkin 187) The wind energy industry is growing fast, at more than 25% a year.
