element in the universe. It makes up 75% of
the mass of the universe, and 90% of its molecules
(Rifkin 177).

fact, look beneath the surface of our fossil fuel
economy, and you discover that hydrogen has long
been our dominant source of energy. But it usually
comes wrapped up with carbon, in the form of “hydrocarbons”
like petroleum, natural gas, or coal.
