When we burn hydrocarbons, we’re really only using the hydrogen for fuel. The carbon “goes up in smoke,” polluting the atmosphere, and affecting global climate.

Scientists point out that over time, societies tend to move away from the most polluting, carbon intensive forms of energy, and toward forms that are less carbon intensive.

 

From wood – which is 10 parts carbon to 1 part hydrogen

To coal – which is 2-to-1 carbon

To oil and natural gas – which have 50% to 90% less carbon than coal

Now it is time to take one more step – to pure hydrogen
