A Conversation with Ocean-Climate Trust

We caught up with Ocean-Climate Trust founder Brad Ack on “climate hedges,” the debate around geo-engineering, and what he’d like to see in a climate stimulus bill.

In April 2020, as part of our virtual Future 500 Summit at EarthX, I spoke with two advocates whose organization are advancing “Innovative Climate Solutions for our Climate Emergency.”

Brad Ack, Founder of Ocean-Climate Trust and Chad Frischmann, Vice President and Research Director of Project Drawdown, discussed how new approaches to addressing the climate crisis are desperately needed.

We had tons of audience questions pouring in during the webinar. Since we didn’t have time to answer all of them, I checked in with Brad Ack for a deeper look at the Ocean-Climate Nexus and an opportunity to have your questions answered.

Note: Learn more about Project Drawdown’s work in our Ask an Advocate Anything interview with Chad Frischmann.

In this Q&A, we discuss:

  • Why Ack thinks we need "climate hedges" to avoid runaway climate change.

  • The controversy around geo-engineering.

  • Whether research and development distracts from existing climate solutions.

  • What Ack would like to see in a climate stimulus bill.

  • The impact of deep seabed mining on carbon sinks and marine species.

  • What’s next for Ocean-Climate Trust.

Listen in on a conversation with Brad Ack, founder of Ocean Climate Trust and Ellen Griesemer, Future 500 Analyst.
